Stan Rockwell

I have worked as a mental health professional since 1977 and have been licensed as a professional counselor in Virginia since 1989.

I earned my BA in Psychology and Philosophy from the College of William and Mary, my M.Ed. and Ed.S. in Counseling from the School of Education of the College of William and Mary, and my Doctorate in Psychology from California Southern University with a focus on sports psychology. I served in public sector mental health for over 30 years in both inpatient and outpatient programs. I provided counseling to a wide variety of people in individual, couples, family, and group settings. In addition, I provided crisis counseling and managed disaster services mental health. I also provided live and developed online training and managed the practicum and intern program for graduate students. For many years I was a client rights advocate and investigator. I have provided supervision for residents in counseling.  I am a member of the American Psychological Association,  American Counseling Association, the Virginia Counselors Association, and the Virginia Clinical Counselors Alliance. I served as the chair of the VCA Professional Development Committee for six years, and served on the Genesis Local Human Rights Committee for three years serving as the chair my final year. I am currently serving as a field tester with the World Health Organization in the development of the ICD 11. I moved into private practice in 2009 and retired from counseling in May of 2019.

I am also a taijiquan and qigong teacher. I am a member of the Tai Chi for Health Community, the National Qigong Association, and the American Tai Chi and Qigong Association. I am also available to give workshops using eastern and western methods for health and wellness and have presented at various local groups in Williamsburg VA as well as for the Conference of Chief Justices and State Court Administrators, the Virginia Counselors Association, and the Virginia Summer Institute of Addiction Studies.
